HomeMy WebLinkAboutVacancy Announcement 2025 TOWN OF ITHACA BOARD VACANCY LIST Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Board, and Ethics Board Have you ever wanted to get involved/give back to the community you live in, but you weren’t quite sure how to get involved? The Town has openings on the following boards: The Planning Board - consists of seven regular members and one alternate. The Planning Board is charged with reviewing land use and development issues as well as approving subdivisions, site plans and special permit requests. Meetings are generally held at 6:30pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. The Zoning Board of Appeals - consists of 5 regular members and 2 alternates. The Zoning Board of Appeals is a quasi-judicial board that is charged with ensuring compliance with the Town’s zoning ordinances and considering variances and/or special approvals requests from residents. Determinations are made by weighing the criteria set for each type of variance after hearing from the applicant, the public, and discussions between the members with staff and counsel available for questions. Meetings are generally held at 6 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month. A regular member is a full voting member with a 5- or 7- year term. An alternate member is a 1- year term, and you fully participate but only vote when a regular member is absent or recused. This is a great way to see how the board works, the types of issues discussed and determined, and to test the commitment that is needed. Some knowledge of the application of municipal law and other rules and regulations is helpful but is not required. Both Boards do have a Town residency requirement, and members receive a small stipend per meeting attended. The Conservation Board – is looking for several residents with a passion for conservation, recreation, or education to join their efforts to safeguard and promote our natural and scenic resources for all. The board engages both the Town Board and Planning Board to make sure our community's environmental concerns are heard. Meetings are the first Thursday of the month, 5:30 to 7:00 pm. If you are interested in proposed development projects, deer management, invasive species education, water quality, waste awareness, scenic resources, or other conservation concerns, please consider joining, and of course, all meetings are open to the public and available via ZOOM platform as well.
