Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Ethics Board Vacancies
Have you ever wanted to give back to the community you live in, but weren’t sure how to
get involved? The Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals have vacancies.
There are possible Regular and Alternate positions coming open.
An Alternate Member position is a 1-year term and is a great way to see how a board
works and the level of time commitment needed.
Planning Board
The Planning Board consists of seven regular members with two alternates. The
Planning Board is charged with reviewing land use and development issues as well as
approving subdivisions, site plans and special permit requests. Planning Board meetings
are generally held at 6:30 pm on the first and third Tuesday of the month.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals consists of 5 regular members and 2 alternates. The
Zoning Board is a quasi-judicial board that is charged with ensuring compliance of the
Town’s zoning ordinances and considering variances and/or special approvals requests
and weighing the criteria set for each type of variance during deliberations. Zoning Board
meetings are generally held at 6 pm on the third Monday of the month.
Some knowledge of the application of municipal law or other rules and regulations is
helpful but not required. Both Boards do have a Town residency requirement and
members receive a small stipend per meeting attended.
Ethics Board
The Ethics Board meets once a year to review the Town’s Ethics Policy and review
Ethic’s Disclosure Forms submitted by elected and appointed officials.
If an ethics complaint is filed with the Town, the Ethics Board would also then meet to
investigate and make a determination on the complaint.
The only residency requirement is that you reside in Tompkins County.
Please contact the Town Clerk at 273-1721 #1 or via email at clerks@townithacany.gov
or visit our Website at www.townithacany.gov under Forms and using our application
