TOWN OF ITHACA
LOCAL LAW NO. 10 OF THE YEAR 2012
A Local Law Amending Chapter 225 of the Town of Ithaca Code, Titled “Sprinkler
Systems,” to Exempt Certain Buildings from Sprinkler Requirements
Be it enacted by the Town Board of the Town of Ithaca as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 225 (Sprinkler Systems) of the Town of Ithaca Code, §225-3 titled
“New buildings required to have sprinkler systems” is amended as follows:
A. Delete subsection A(8) and replace it with a new subsection A(8) reading as
follows:
“(8) Storage buildings exceeding 400 square feet in size.”
B. Add a new subsection B reading as follows:
“B. Notwithstanding the requirements of subsection A above, detached
residential garages and residential accessory buildings, including those
associated with one- or two-family dwellings or multiple family dwellings,
regardless of size, are not required to have sprinkler systems.”
Section 2. In the event that any portion of this law is declared invalid by a court of
competent jurisdiction, the validity of the remaining portions shall not be affected by such
declaration of invalidity.
Section 3. This local law shall take effect immediately upon filing with the New York
Secretary of State.
