HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969 Snyder Hill Community AssociationApril Ik, 1969 To Supervisor William Kerr and members of the Ithaca Totm Board Dear Sirs; The members of the Snyder Hill Community Center, a civic association composed of residents of the Snyder Hill area, \/ould again like to bring to the attention of the Ithaca Town Board the opinions of these residents as well as those of other residents of the Town of Ithaca, concerning the requested zoning change to permit the Eastern Heights devel opment group permission to construct their multiple residence project. A hearing of the Town of Ithaca Planning Board was first held on August 13, 1968 to consider this proposal and It was attended by over 20 residents of this area, all voicing their opposition to the change. Not one resident attending this meeting approved the plan. A second meeting held September lu, 1968 and attended by a larger nijunber of these residents, and a special meeting held October 22, 1968, also attended by over 1$ residents, resulted In the same unanimous opposition. When this proposal was heard by the Ithaca Town Board at a public hearing on December 10, 1968, over 30 residents of the affected neighborhood voiced their opposi tion. Again not one Town resident approved the requested zoning change. At the final hearing held January 13, 1969, at which the proposal was turned down by a Town Board vote, unanimous opposition was again voiced, including opposition by representatives of several other civic associations in the Town of Ithaca. We feel that this unanimous opposition or all interested and affected residents of the Town of Ithaca should be given first consideration In hearing any such zoning change involving these residents, knowing that the Zoning Ordinance was prepared and adopted to Incorporate procedures to protect the Interests of the Town residents and to convene hearings to determine the opinions and rights of these residents. July 7, 1969 Ithaca Town Board Dear Sirs: We again feel compelled to bring to your attention the continuing violation of the Town Zoning Ordinance as practiced by Mr* Michael J* Pichel of 608 N, Tioga Street in connection with the two 2 family dwellings at 11? and 119 Snyder Hill Road. We have personally contacted Mr. D. W. Cowan, Zoning Officer, on three separate occasions and have brought it to the Town Board's attention three times since the first of the year. Mr. Pichel, as you know, is unmoved, and unless he changes his stand drastically will continue to rent his apartments to unrelated individuals under the guise of family members from now on. He has made a mockery of Judge Bryant's ruling, the Zoning Ordinance, the Town Board, and this community association. Back to Mr. Cowan - he issued permits to Francis C. Chase, Builder, for three houses, 2 family in design, which he built on Snyder Hill Road, all of which are in clear violation of the Zoning Ordinance under Article IV, Section 11, paragraph 2 which excludes 2 family dwellings where the second dwelling unit exceeds S0% of the floor area of the principal dwelling unit. This situation has been called to Mr. Cowan's attention at least twice, again to no avail. We feel that the Town Board should take the necessary steps to correct these situations by whatever means the power of their office provides.
