We asked Vincent, who is one of our

is in real estate for some statistics on Town
properties and these are numbers from his
experiences.
DON’T GET SCAMMED
Rental scams are getting more and
more sophisticated. Many of the
property research tools we highlight in
the following pages show the various
ways of verifying the validity of a
property’s status and ownership.
For Town properties, you can easily
check the owner of record and whether
there is an active rental permit.
If something sounds too good to be true,
it probably is. The Federal Trade
Commission has a website with tips on
avoiding these scams HERE.

The Town has a research tool called MapLink which integrates the Town of Ithaca Code with all
parcels in the Town. You can look up the Code regulations associated with a home or parcel you are
interested in.
For informational purposes only and does not imply or grant permission or authority for any specific
use/development/construction or building project on a property. You should always contact the
Town’s Code Enforcement or Planning Department with questions or ideas/concepts you may have.
This is meant to give you the information to form those questions before you buy or sell a property.
Click “accept” and you are on your way.
Find a Property – enter the
address or tax parcel
number. Basic information
is shown.
If you don’t have an exact
address, simply enter the
name of the street; all
addresses populate. You
can select one or click on
any parcel on the interactive
map.
Click “Details” and the associated sections
of the Town of Ithaca Code are categorized
and listed with expandable detail tabs.
You can zoom in or out to see adjacent parcels, outlines of structures on record and there are
links to other types of maps such as FEMA Floodplains Maps, Wetland Inventory Maps,
Topographic maps and more.

The Department of Assesment has property information publicly available through a
program called Beacon. You can search for your property and see information like
assessed value, municipality and total acreage. There is also a compare tool where
you can see how your property compares to similar properties in the area.
The Tompkins County Clerk’s Office has documents publicly available through an online
records search. Here you can fine deeds, easements, liens and other paperwork filed with
the county. Just login as a guest and type in your search criteria to find the documents.
To access the search function, go to townithacany.gov
website, choose “Forms, Documents and Permits” on
the home page:
Thinking of buying or selling a home in
the Town? The OpenGov Property Public
Search function is a pilot program we
launched which allows you to search
certain open and closed permits and
records issued by the Town’s Code
Enforcement and Zoning Department.
We hope this helps people find some of
the information they may want or need
in a timely fashion, especially outside of
normal business hours when many
questions come up for people.
Chose the
“Search”
function on the

choose any records you would like to view.
Note: Records listed issued prior to 2022 will
not have documents attached. You can
request those via a FOIL Request through the
Town Clerk’s Office.

The special programming planned begins Thursday, June 18 with a ROARING kick-off celebration

The celebration continues through July and into August, with highlights including live animal shows, a
hands-on fossil workshop, tours for grown-ups of the Museum of the Earth and the Johnson Museum
of Art, a tour of Ithaca’s Murals, a children's concert with Laura Doherty, a puppet show and workshop,
an illustrator visit, writing and poetry workshops, tabletop role playing games, yoga, and so much
more! We also have books coming in all the time for giveaways, and raffle prizes you have a chance to
win just for reading!
