TB Resolution2023–061: Approval of a Speed Limit Reduction Request for New York State Route 13A also known as Five Mile Dr
Whereas,the Ithaca Town Board, was issued a signature petition request from Town of Ithaca and City of Ithaca Residents that reside along the New York State Route 13A corridor, also
known as Five Mile Drive, for a speed reduction, and
Whereas,the excessive speeds, higher truck volumes, dangerous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists are some of the reasons for the request,and
Whereas,the concerned residents have also stated since the last speed reduction request in March of 2019, in which New York State Department of Transportation denied the request, there
was a bicyclist fatality reported in the City of Ithaca portion of NYS Route 13A, now therefore be it
Resolved, that the Town Board of the Town of Ithaca requests the New York State Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division to review and reduce the speed limit to 30 MPH on
New York State Route 13A,between New York State Route 13and the City of Ithaca municipal line.
