TB Resolution2023 -191: Approval of a Town of Ithaca Streetlight Policy, where the provisions of the Complete Streets Policy are not applicable
Whereas, the Town of Ithaca recognizes the importance of lighting for the safety of multi-modal traffic in publicly traversed rights-of-way, and
Whereas, the Town also recognizes the need to exercise discretion in the placement and quality of lighting to minimize excessive luminance and energy consumption, and
Whereas, the Townunderstands the need to enable a process by which members of the public can request the installation, removal, relocation or modification of streetlights in areas where
the Town’s Complete Streets Policy is not applicable, and
Whereas, the Public Works Committee, in coordination with Planning, Engineering, and Highway Department staff, has overseen the development of, and reviewed, the Town of Ithaca Streetlight
Policy, and
Whereas, Town staff has created and identified guidance and technical materials to aid in public understanding of the policy and in the review of applications, now therefore be it
Resolved that the Town Board hereby approve the Streetlight Policy, effective January 1, 2024.
