TB Resolution 2024 - 036: Authorization for the Town Engineer to issue a Sewer Exemption for Tax Parcel No. 51.-1-1.2
Whereas the Town Engineer received a request for a Sewer Exemption from Ray Terepka and Nancy Stewart, the owners of Tax Parcel No.51.-1-1.2, due to the excessively large costs to connect
into the public sewer, and
Whereas the cost estimate for the nearest connection to public sewer involving a sewer pump out system and County Road crossing is approximately $61k, and
Whereas a gravity sewer connection to public sewer located in the northeast quadrant of the lot, approximately 1600 feet from the proposed house location, is not feasible to elevation
conflicts, and
Whereas the owners are constructing a single-family home on the property, and
Whereas the owners wish to install a Health Department approved onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) for the property with sufficient room for a replacement system if needed, and
Whereas the estimate to install a new OWTS is approximately $20K, and
Whereas the Public Works Committee discussed the potential request at its March19, 2024 meeting and recommended forwarding to the Town Board for review, now therefore be it
Resolved, that the Town Board authorizes the Town Engineer to issue an exemption from Town Code Section 214-5 public sewer connection requirement for Tax Parcel 51.-1-1.2, for the installation
of a new OWTS associated with the proposed single-family residence to be constructed on the property, subject to the consent of the Tompkins County Health Department.
Resolved, that any further subdivision of the property and/or change in occupancy use beyond the identified single-family home, may necessitate the need to cancel the exemption by the
Town Board.
