TB Resolution 2024- 074: Recognition and Appreciation of Donna Shaw’sDedicated Years of Service
Whereas, Donna Shawstarted her career at the town on July 10, 2019, as a part time Deputy Finance Officer and on December 27,2020,was promoted to Finance Officer; and
Whereas, Donna brought to the Town over 30 years offinance and accounting knowledge and experience from herroles at Tompkins County Finance Department; and
Whereas, Donna was relentless in looking for ways to earn the Town interest income by consistently reviewing interest rates and was instrumental in adding NYClass and other financial
institutions to the Town’s investment portfolio; and
Whereas, handling complex financial issues like converting water and sewer funds to meet NYS enterprise fund requirements, reviewing contracts with Village of Cayuga Heights, Ithaca
Fire Department, Cayuga Watershed Intermunicipal Organization and Cornell University and diving deep into benefit assessment numbers and calculations brought out Donna’s strong points;
and
Whereas, Donna was a strong team player and worked directly with department heads on financial matters to help achieve the Town’s goalsand helped bring on a more robust accounting and
payroll software platform that provides real time accounting information to the departments; and
Whereas Donna has proven to be fiscally prudent, detail oriented and tireless in educating the staff about the NYS procurement procedures and was known to be helpful, cooperative, and
easy to work with; and
Whereasafter five (5) years of dedicated and devoted service to our community,Donnahas chosen to retire from the Town of Ithaca, effective July 20, 2024;now, therefore, be it
Resolved, that on this 8th day of July 2024, the Town Board of the Town of Ithaca, on behalf of the Town and its citizens, expresses its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Donna Shawfor
her distinguished and dedicated service to our community.
